Not everyone is big readers; however, I’m offering a summer reading list for those who may be looking for something to get started on. I will be recommending a self-help, an autobiography, and a few fiction pieces (a couple will be sci-fi and the other will be something else considering not everyone is a sci-fi fan.
The first recommendation is a self-help fiction piece by Richard Bach, Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Although the title sounds unappealing, the novella itself explores self discovery and becoming who you were meant to. This work contains only 144 pages and is classified under the spiritual genre and is sure to be an amazing read if you feel somewhat lost, or are open to criticism on how to improve your life.
Next is Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Abloom, an autobiography exploring the author’s thoughts and feelings after a professor's death. This is a beautiful book and is something worth reading if you’re into non-fiction or even if you aren’t! The emotions that are mentioned are truly held in a beautiful grace and will have a lesson to offer any reader of any age.
For the sci-fi lovers out there, I offer not only a singular book, but two whole series! First, we have the Arc of a Scythe series by Neal Shushterman. This particular series has a total of three books, averaging out to approximately 1200 pages making for a long but enjoyable read. The series has a futuristic setting where mankind has found all the answers to every problem: war, illness, and even death. It is definitely an exciting read and leaves you wanting more.
The second series is none other than the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness. This is a series built on the basis that everyone has a “noise” that expresses one's thoughts, unable to be hidden by anyone. Overall, the series is absolutely amazing and is coming out with a movie adaption in February of this year with Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland as the stars of the film. The concept of this series is unique in comparison to other books. Another book I recommend by Patrick Ness is More Than This if you happen to finish the Chaos Walking series.
To finish off this summer reading recommendations, is a fictional book that may appeal to those that don’t like the sci-fi genre. I'm sure we’ve all heard of Sherlock Holmes, and we may even associate it with the BBC television series, but The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is an amazing novel that contains a collection of different scenarios and lessons. It’s a book that is able to hold your attention and leads you to twists and turns than you could never have imagined. The only thing that I have to say is read it. It’s definitely worth your while.
Hopefully this is enough to take up your spare time this summer! I hope you found something interesting to read, or even to write! The possibilities are truly endless!
