Dear Readers,
Did you know that people used to inject milk and beer (among other things) into their veins in the 16th century?
Well, in case you didn’t know, now you do. And it will be seared into your mind just like how it is in mine (thank you Aparajita, for that slightly traumatizing, yet compelling book rec, The Body by Bill Bryson). It definitely made for an interesting summer read...
Now, I suppose I should welcome the Grade 10s. So… welcome! and everyone else, welcome back.
Here we are, a whole year set in front of us, ripe with opportunity and new beginnings. The notion that we would be able to come together in a whole mass and participate in clubs and play in sports (without masks too!) would have seemed inconceivable only a year ago. But now, the doors have opened for the unrestrained pursuit of new (or old) hobbies and interests.
As I was reading Bill Bryson’s The Body, I realized the odd beliefs that used to swarm the minds of folk centuries ago and found the discoveries that we had made (in a few decades no less) astounding. And hey, we’ve all gotta start somewhere.
This issue covers a number of different topics, including the federal election (which is coming up on the 20th) and the beginning of the Science Club at LCHS!
Now, while we are given freedom, we must be appreciative and not take it for granted. That is, understanding each other’s boundaries and respecting the personal choices we each make. As we shed our masks, we move into a more uncertain but, perhaps, hopeful future.
Sincerely,
Udaya Reddy
